Ans: Definitely, cricket owes its present popularity to television. Television also enabled it to reach far and wide even in small towns and villages through the local broadcasting services.

Ans: Cricket is a British sport which gained popularity mostly in the colonial countries of British empire. India was a part of the British empire but China or Russia were not. Therefore, cricket has large viewership in India compared to China or Russia. Moreover, TV companies have created a global market for cricket in India.

Ans: The things which are necessary for playing the game are game’s (cricket) ‘equipment’. Like in cricket, ball, bat, wicket, helmets, gloves, pads are the required things to play the game.

Ans: Test Game is unique for its length of play( 5-day long game) and still it can end in a draw. No other modern team sport takes even half as much time to complete. The other unique feature of the game is that the size and shape of the ground can vary, only the pitch-length is specifically fixed,

Ans: Cricket is different from other team games because it goes on for a longer time than any other games. It also has many different formats like Test Cricket, One-day International and T-20 match and each game takes different time to get completed. Another a strange feature of Cricket is the play ground that it can be of any size, only the length of the pitch is specified while in other games the dimensions of the playing area is specified.
9. How have advances in technology affected the game of cricket?
Ans: Influenced by the advances in technology, the players have started wearing more protective equipment. The invention of vulcanized rubber has introduced protective pads and gloves. The synthetic light weight material, along with metals has helped the players to get better helmets. Satellites have helped in increasing the popularity and viewership of cricket matches far and wide. Technology has also helped in taking fair decisions during the game.
10. Explain how cricket changed with changing times and yet remained unchanged in some ways.
Ans: With time, technology has advanced and in terms of game equipment the game of cricket, too has seen a few changes. The players have started wearing protective equipment made up of synthetic light weight material. But still, both bat and ball are handmade, not industrially manufactured. Although now the bat,that was made out of one piece earlier, has a separate blade and handle. The modern cricket has many new formats, like the T 20, but the basic rules of the game are still the same. The popularity of the game has increased many folds. Decisions have became more fair with motion sensor cameras.
