CBSE Worksheet 01
Ch-19 India Climate Vegetation and Wildlife

Solution

  1. (c) December to February
Explanation: The Cold Weather Season or Winter Season continues from December to February in India. During this season, the sun rays do not fall directly on India.
  2. (c) Snake
Explanation: Cobra and Kraits are the species of snake. Cobra and Kraits are Poisonous snakes.
  3. (d) Hot weather Season
Explanation: The summer season continues from March to May in India. During this season, the sun rays fall more or less directly in India. Due to this, the temperature remains high during this period. Hot and dry winds (called Loo) blow during the day in northern India.
  4. (a) Tropical region
Explanation: The climate of India has broadly been described as Monsoon type. Due to India’s location in the tropical region, most of the rain is brought by monsoon winds. The climate of a place is affected by its location, altitude, distance from the sea, and relief.
  5. (c) Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, Land
Explanation: The south west monsoon is marked by the onset and advance of the monsoon. The winds blow from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal towards the land and carry moisture with them.
  6. (i) - (c), (ii) - (d), (iii) - (a), (iv) - (b).
    1. Climate
    2. Peacock
    3. Migratory bird
    4. High, low
    1. True
    2. True
    3. True
    4. False. Hot and dry winds blow during the day in summer is called Loo.
  7. The duration of the south-west monsoon season is from June to September.
  8. The two regions of Rajasthan which are very hot are Jaisalmer and Bikaner.
    1. We can also contribute to conserving wildlife.
    2. We should refuse to buy things made from parts of the bodies of animals like their bones, horns, fur, skin, and feathers.
    3. Every year we should observe wildlife week in the first week of October, to create awareness of conserving the habitats of the animal kingdom.
    4. To protect wildlife, many national parks, wildlife sanctuaries & bird sanctuaries have been set up all over India.
    5. The parks & sanctuaries provide the animals with protection and a natural environment in which they can thrive.
  9. During cold weather season (winter), the sun rays do not fall directly in the region. As a result, the temperatures are quite low in northern India. In hot weather season (summer), the sun rays fall directly in the region. Hence, the temperature becomes very high. Hot and dry winds called loo blow during the day time.
  10. Season of retreating monsoon (Autumn): This is the season of retreating monsoons. During this season winds move back from the mainland to the Bay of Bengal. The southern parts of India receive rainfall in this season.
  11. Forests play a vital role in the life of human beings and in their absence, we can’t imagine a life. Plants release oxygen that we breathe and absorb carbon dioxide. The roots of the plants bind the soil and in this way check soil erosion. We get several things from the forests, such as wood for furniture, fuel, fodder, medicinal herbs, honey, lac, gum, fruits etc. Forests provide natural habitat to wildlife, such as lions, tigers, elephants, monkeys, etc. As forests are so beneficial for us, we must make efforts to conserve it. The forests can be saved because:
    1. Natural vegetation has been destroyed to a large extent because of the unnecessary cutting of trees.
    2. We should plant more and more trees and protect the existing ones by making people aware of the importance of forests.
    3. Special programmes like Van Mahotsav is to involve more people in making our earth green.
