1. How do we make use of the force of wind?
The force of wind is used in moving the sail-boats and to work a wind mill.
2. Give the uses of wind mills?
The wind mills are used for grinding corn and for lifting water from wells.
3. How are storms harmful?
a) They uproot trees and poles. b) They blow away roofs from huts and sheds.
c) They damage trees, crops, houses and animals. d) They make boats and ships to sink.
4. What are clouds?
Cloud is water vapour which on cooling forms rains.
5.) Mention the uses of wind-fans?
Wind-fans are used for producing electricity.
6.) Why should we not cover our face while sleeping?
To breathe in fresh air, we should not cover face while sleeping.
7. Explain water cycle.
On high hills, clouds cool to form ice, which comes down as snow. High mountain peaks are covered with snow. This snow melts all the year round and water flows into rivers. The rivers flow into the sea. Water on land and in the sea, evaporates to form clouds. This cycle goes on and on. This is called water cycle.
8. What is the use of a weather-vane?
A weather-vane helps to learn about the direction of the wind.
9. Why do ponds and wells dry during summer?
Since the water from ponds and wells evaporate all the time and goes into the air due to heat, ponds and wells dry during summer.
10. How would you show that air has water vapour in it?
Keep some ice in a glass. Wipe the glass dry from outside. After some time, outside the glass becomes foggy and some water drops start trickling down the glass. This water drops shows that air around us have water vapour which on cooling changes into water drops
