Solution
- He was nearly struck with a cyclist coming along the road who had to run into the hedge to avoid imminent collision.
- The young girl told Framton that a great tragedy had happened in the family about three years ago.
- The girl was staring out through the open window with a dazed horror in his eyes. She was pretending to horrify Mr Framton Nuttel.
- Framton Nuttel told that the doctors had agreed in ordering him complete rest, an absence of mental excitement and avoidance of any physical exercise.
- Mr Framton tells Vera that he doesn’t know anybody in that village. He wondered whether the lady was married or a widow. But he notices that some male member has been living in the room.
- Mrs. Sappleton told Framton Nuttel that her husband and brothers were expected soon. They would enter the house through the window. Their dog would follow them as usual. That was why the window was kept open every evening until it is dark.
- Mrs Sappleton and her niece told different stories why Framton had run out of the house in such a hurry. The lady called him an extraordinary man who talked only about his illness. Perhaps he had seen a ghost, so he had dashed off. But Vera said that the caller had a horror of dogs. So the sight of Spaniel, the dog made him push out.
- No, the tragic story Vera told about Mrs. Sappleton was not true. We know this as Vera was good at spinning tales. She was able to convince Frampton that Mrs. Sappleton’s husband and brothers were engulfed by the bog and were dead and so when Frampton saw Mrs. Sappleton’s husband and brothers heading towards the house, Frampton got scared and ran away believing them to be ghosts. This surprised Mrs Sappleton and that's when Vera spins another tale and told her aunt that Frampton was afraid of dogs as he was once chased by dogs in India and had fallen into a grave because of them. This tale proves that Vera's story about Mrs Sappleton's tragedy was a lie.
