VERY SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS
12. Why is it important to conserve forests?
Ans. We should conserve forests due to the following reasons:
- Deforestation leads to an increase in the temperature and pollution which in turn is responsible in increasing the level of atmosphere carbon dioxide in the atmosphere leading to droughts. Leading to global warming.
- This increase in temperature also disturbs the water cycle and results in decreased rainfall finally leading to droughts. It also lowers the ground water level.
- Deforestation alters the soil properties leading to soil erosion. Due to soil erosion the lower, rocky surface gets exposed possessing less humus. In this way the fertile soil gets removed leading to desertification.
- It also reduces the water holding capacity of soil leading to the reducing in the movement of water from soil into the ground. This finally leads to the increased chances of floods.
13. Mention any one action that you have undertaken to conserve trees.

15. Can a forest regenerate naturally in a short period of time?
Ans. Reforestation can take place naturally by leaving the deforested area undisturbed for a long time. But this process takes a long time in terms of years, so we can say that forests cannot regenerate naturally in short period of time.
