- She was Kezia, the little girl.
- She stuttered in front her father because she was afraid of him.
- She tried hard to say words properly in front of her father but couldn’t because she was afraid of him.
- She was afraid of her father because he had a huge body and behaved very strictly in front of her.
- The grandmother sent Kezia to the drawing room on Sunday afternoons to be with her father and mother.
- The girl always stood still, afraid and shaken in front of her father, after going to drawing room.
- Father’s usual habit on Sunday afternoons was to sleep on the sofa with handkerchief on his face and his legs on a fine cushion, snoring heavily.
- Kezia sent to her father and mother to be with them and talk to them. She was always fearful of her father and stuttered in front of him.
- These words were spoken by Kezia’s father to her mother about Kezia.
- ‘You look like a brown owl’. The father said it to Kezia because she was afraid of him and stood still in the drawing room, staring at him blankly.

- MacDonald was the neighbor of Kezia. He had five children and he used to often play with them.

He used to scold Kezia for her mistakes, even when she stuttered he never tried to pacify her. He would comment on her behavior and her actions.
- A change occurred in Kezia towards her father when her mother had to go to hospital for her treatment and she had to sleep alone at home. Kezia was always afraid of sleeping alone as she used to get nightmares. Her mother would take her to her bedroom and made her sleep with her whenever Kezia was afraid. That night when she was alone at home and had the nightmare, her father took her to his room and made her comfortable and took her to his bed to sleep.
